Solo exhibition by Antonio Romero
MARTE Museum presents the first volume of the series “Tropicalia” by Salvadoran artist Antonio Romero. The series “Tropicalia” by Salvadoran artist Antonio Romero presents a metaphorical vision of the landscape, transforming it into a fictionalized and homogenized scenario.
In this exhibition, the public becomes another character in a carefully created atmosphere. Through a horizon of landscapes captured on large canvases, viewers are integrated into the scene. In front of these canvases, small horizontal landscapes, evoking the peepholes of watchtowers, show more diminutive views, as if observing landscapes from a distance. This inside/outside game problematizes the concept of “No Place,” an indeterminacy of the place we occupy and alter, or that transforms us.
The exhibition begins with three portraits, including an enlarged passport photograph, that suggest a transition to a stain. Through these images, the artist dilutes individuality in favor of collectivity.
