Madrid kicks off its contemporary art season this week with one of the best events for gauging the pulse of the city’s galleries. Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend is holding its seventeenth edition from 10 to 13 September, once again transforming neighbourhoods such as Centro, Salesas, Lavapiés, Letras, Salamanca, Chamberí and Carabanchel into an almost continuous trail of new exhibitions. More than 60 galleries from Arte Madrid are taking part this year in a free programme combining painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video and guided tours with artists and curators.
