MEMORIA is a contemporary art gallery with two locations in Madrid — one in the city center and another in the artistic district of Carabanchel — that directs its program toward the construction of compensatory narratives through the displacement of aesthetics historically situated on the periphery. Founded in September 2020 by curator, artist, and collector Alejandro de Villota, the gallery structures its curatorial line around research projects that revisit and expand the spectrum of artists, geographies, and periods, with a sustained interest in the historical and contemporary scenes of Latin America.

In its first five years, MEMORIA has consolidated a rigorous and critical identity within the Spanish context, combining monographic and group exhibitions in a program that focuses on social, political, and cultural issues of global scope. In 2024, it received the Festival OFF Award at PHotoEspaña for the exhibition Soy mujer que habla con el viento by Maya Goded, a recognition that underscored the strength of its commitment to photography and to discourses engaged with memory, gender, and identity.

In 2026, the gallery debuted in the General Programme of ARCOmadrid, marking a milestone in its national and international projection and reaffirming its position within the European professional circuit. Throughout these five years, it has also participated in various national and international art fairs, strengthening networks of collaboration with collectors, curators, and institutions.

With a program that integrates historical practices and current production, MEMORIA has established itself as a leading platform in Madrid for the critical reassessment of modernity and contemporaneity, fostering transnational dialogues and actively contributing to the expansion of contemporary art history.
